  How the 70s were the most colourful chapter in motorsport. About Artistic Racer.


Hi my name is Oran Scully I am a self taught artisan with an interest in all kinds of art especially Pop Art.  

 Artistic Racer is a blog, I have created in which I try to marry my love of art with a love for all things      mechanical, namely racing cars, racing motorbikes and racing bicycles.  


What is the meaning behind the name Artistic Racer. 


The name comes from a remix of influences, I was a racing cyclist in my youth and raced from school boy level to Junior level with thoughts of becoming a Professional cyclist.  
 

  

I still race to this day taking part in mountain bike races and adventure races which are great fun and keep me fit and focused.  



                                                    
I also inherited an interest for cars and motorcycles from my Father and Uncle , as they were both rally drivers in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

I also have an interest in driving on tracks and have driven on the Nurburgring in Germany and The Targa Florio road circuit in Sicily Italy.

I will always snap a few photos of an interesting car, or a motorcycle, or a nice bicycle, then later will sketch out ideas from the images I have taken. 

There is a great feeling of individualism and freedom when you sketch and paint.  I simply enjoy it and its a wonderful feeling. 
We all see things differently with our minds eye. What you see will be different from what I see. 

I also like writing and this blog is my vehicle for expression of all the things that interest me,  and that I hope you will find interesting too. 


I feel like I am customizer when I am creating art, that I have the freedom to create something new, to create my own garage project, that is my art.

How Race cars came to have animalistic art painted on them!

Its engine can be seen as its mechanical heart and lungs. Its frame can be seen as its skeleton, and its bodywork its skin, and its muscle. All of these components combining to protect its brain, the race car driver that sat within . So its fitting that that art inspired by the animal kingdom found its way onto flanks of race cars.   How the art and cartoon characters of Walt Disney’s artists came to influence the aesthetics of motor cycle racing and lead to the customisation of riders helmets.
