About Artistic Racer.



Hello my name is Oran Scully, I am a self taught artisan with an interest in all kinds of art, especially Pop Art and graphic design.  

Artistic Racer is a blog, I have created in which I try to marry my love of art with a love for all things mechanical, namely racing cars, racing motorbikes and racing bicycles.  


What is the meaning behind the name Artistic Racer. 


The name comes from a remix of influences, I was a racing cyclist in my youth and raced from school boy level to Junior level with thoughts of becoming a Professional cyclist.  
 
I also inherited an interest for cars and motorcycles from my Father and Uncle , as they were both rally drivers in the late 1970's and early 1980's.   

 I will always snap a few photos of an interesting car, or a motorcycle, or a nice bicycle, then later will sketch out ideas from the images I have taken. 

There is a great feeling of individualism and freedom when you sketch and paint.  I simply enjoy it and its a wonderful feeling. 
We all see things differently with our minds eye. What you see will be different from what I see. 

I also like writing and this blog is my vehicle for expression of all the things that interest me,  and that I hope you will find interesting too. 


I feel like I am customizer when I am creating art, that I have the freedom to create something new, to create my own garage project, that is my art.

  How the 70s were the most colourful chapter in motorsport. Written by Oran Scully 10.12.24 The 1970s was the most colourful chapter in the history of motorsport . In the heat of battle you had the bright orange sponsorship of Jagermeister , the minty greens of the sponsor Vaillant , and the psychedelic colour schemes of the Martini Rossi team to name but a few. All of these colours were placed over the surface of some of the most exciting racing cars that ever existed the Porsche's 917 and the Porsche 935. But just a few years earlier it was a completely different story with the application of the colour white, the default option for the colourisation of all race cars . What caused such a turnabout!
