  How the 70s were the most colourful chapter in motorsport.   How the art and cartoon characters of Walt Disney’s artists came to influence the aesthetics of motor cycle racing and lead to the customisation of riders helmets. The story of the monocoque time trial bike a true piece of  cyberpunk art.    Written by Oran Scully 6.11.25          The Battaglin Piranha   Art by Artistic Racer  Let me take you back in time the year is 1985 the place Verona Italy  and the Giro D’Italia has transformed the  ancient town by draping its surroundings in a pretty pink colour.    The Italian sun warming the faces in the crowds its rays dancing off the old brickwork of ancient Verona.  Suddenly faces in the crowd began to turn and all eyes are trained on an unusual looking bike in  the hands of Roberto Visentini.    Visentini's bike is different to all the other time trial bikes in the Giro because it is made of a one piece carbon monocoque design.  The new bike was  so futuristic that it could have come from William Gibsons’s science fiction novel Neuromancer this was the Battaglin Piranha.   The crowds par...
